BHS Summer 2020 Math Enrichment Letter
Branford Public Schools
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Branford High School Mathematics Department would like to offer various summer learning opportunities to maintain core skills and foundational understandings that were introduced over the past school year. Research shows that students who continue math activities during summer months will retain 25% more material as compared to students who do not engage in math learning activities throughout the summer.
Summer Math Enrichment
All students are encouraged to utilize Khan Academy to explore key concepts found here for the course in which they will be entering in the fall. The activities found on the key concept list will support both computational and problem-solving skills. Once completed, please fill out the Google Form here, informing your child’s future teacher of the work they completed this summer.
If you believe your child would benefit from additional teacher support this summer, we are also offering a Learning Bridges Program, in which your child will work on specific mathematics skills essential to the upcoming grade or math course. Links to videos, resources, and practice problems will be provided virtually and students will work on essential skills at their own pace. A BPS math teacher will provide instruction on a weekly basis as necessary, check-in to support students, and give feedback regularly. The Learning Bridges Program will run from July 6 through July 31. Enrollment information will be forthcoming. If you have questions about if your child should participate in the Learning Bridges Program, please contact your child’s guidance counselor.
Thank you for your support and we hope you have a happy and healthy summer!
